Testing the waters

This one's from the same illustration class as my last post, only this is part of my weekly series rather than an actual assignment. Every week, regardless of whether we have a project due, we have to submit a finished piece that follows the theme of our choosing (has to be the same theme for the whole semester). As I'm sure will come as a surprise to everyone, my theme is soldiers(!), so I present my rendering of a 16th century Polish soldier of the heavy-cavalry class. It's the first time I've worked in watercolours since early high school, and the first time I've felt as though I've had any kind of control over them. Quite excited, I'm going to try to use them whenever I get the chance in the future, and when I do you can be sure to see it here.

School work

This here's a piece I did for my illustration class for second semester. Everyone was given a page out of a 1950's pulp comic book and told to illustrate a picture that could go along with what information we'd been given. Mine was about some dude finding his way through this foggy terrace, where everything had been turned to stone/concrete, then lighting a match to see better and catching a glimpse of a building off in the distance. Did it in acrylic, then scanned and worked some photoshop magic on it. Enjoy!

Let it go!

I always felt like there was more I could do with what I had for the Caesar cover (first post), so I drew in parts of the soldier that were missing (top of his helmet and his left arm) and made the piece into a vignette to open it up more. Did I take it too far? Please let me know what you think, I just had to do it and get it out of my system for good.
